University College Falmouth's MA in multimedia broadcast journalism and its MA in international journalism were applauded by a visiting panel from the Broadcast Journalism Training Council.

The multimedia course was praised for its technical provision, which the panel said was "dazzling in its breadth and range."

It reported high student satisfaction on the international journalism course with students telling the panel that the course is "strongly vocational and academically challenging."

The panel is recommending full three-year accreditation of both courses when the BJTC's Council meets on 21 April.

Joint leader of the multimedia broadcast journalism course Guy Pannell said: "We are delighted with the outcome of the visit, which demonstrates the success of UCF's investment in a multi-million-pound Media Centre, and its insistence on the highest standards of teaching. This is a vote of confidence in our technology and our staff.

"The recognition of one of the UK's longest-established broadcast journalism training courses as a comprehensive multimedia MA demonstrates our commitment to preparing our students for a multi-platform digital future, where they must be as ready to write and upload video, photographs and audio to a website, produce a blog or keep their audience informed through Twitter, as they are to produce reports for radio and television."

International journalism course leader George Matheson added: "It is great to see MA international journalism gaining further recognition and respect from within the news industry.

"This can only enhance the job prospects of our students in an area of journalism that is growing worldwide."
