Computer-assisted reporting workshops look set to be taken around the UK by the Centre for Investigative Journalism following the success of its latest summer school.
More than 100 'students', working for newspapers, magazines and broadcasters, attended three days of workshops, seminars and talks on investigative journalism techniques at City University in London.
And following the event's popularity it is planned to offer the computer techniques sessions on an as and when basis to large employers or other interested groups.
The City University workshops this time covered topics such as internet searching, data mining and social network analysis.
Speakers included American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, who gave an off-the-record talk about his work, and Lowell Bergman, a producer/correspondent for the PBS documentary series Frontline, who is also an investigative reporter with the New York Times.
Other subjects covered by seminars and workshops included investigating multi-national companies, interviewing techniques and record keeping and project management.
The event was the fourth summer school for investigative journalism organised by the CIJ, the second held at City University, attracting journalists from across Europe.
