A new day-release course for multimedia sub-editors is being launched by Press Association Training.

Starting in September, the programme will cover all aspects of the traditional role of the sub-editor in a print environment, while also explaining how those skills are adapted online.

It will lead to the awarding of The Press Association's Diploma in Sub-Editing for trainees successfully completing the course, the portfolio of evidence and the assessment process.

Peter Sands, director of Press Association Training, said: "This is a great way for new subs to gain a recognised qualification as well as develop skills and knowledge to enable them to work in a modern publishing company."

Modules on the 20-day programme will include sub-editing in print and online, headlines; what works on web pages and the publishing industry and the multimedia revolution.

The London-based course will be led by PA's team of production journalism trainers who provide training to many of the UK's leading national and regional newspapers.
