A new media training company which is working in partnership with The Argus in Brighton has received formal accreditation for its courses in production journalism from the National Council for the Training of Journalists.
The Journalist Works will teach sub-editing and newspaper production skills from a base at The Argus's Crowhurst Road headquarters.
Led by ex-TV, radio and print journalist Paula O'Shea, it has been accredited before it officially opens its doors.
She established the Brighton Centre for Journalism at City College in Brighton, where she introduced the NCTJ Newspaper Journalism course.
The new course is due to welcome its first students on April 16.
Paula said: "We are delighted to have been granted accreditation by the NCTJ at this stage.
"It acknowledges our track record both within the industry and in education and means students and prospective students can be confident that the quality of our courses and delivery is second to none."
The Journalist Works will run a 12-week NCTJ Diploma in Production Journalism which will see students studying four days a week in a training newsroom for ten weeks before completing a two-week work placement.
They will learn how to write news stories and features, how to cut and correct stories, page layout and headline writing as well as media law.
In addition the company will run one-day taster courses from April and further courses, including a two-week certificate in sub-editing for reporters, later in the year.
