A journalism student from Cardiff University is to experience life as a reporter in Cuba after winning a £1,000 bursary.
Willow Murton, (24), has been awarded this year's Welsh Livery Guild travel bursary in a contest among students on the postgraduate diploma in journalism studies at the university.
She will spend a month in Cuba, and is looking forward to meeting national journalists on the state radio and television stations, as well as foreign correspondents.
She said: "I worked at the Spanish speaking section of the World Service for six months and have spent some time in Latin America.
"I am fascinated by the politics and people of the region. I'm very excited about the opportunity to explore first-hand what life is like for journalists in Cuba, the only communist state in the Western hemisphere."
The Welsh Livery Guild was formed to promote education, science and the fine arts and in particular the promotion of skills and associated professional activities in Wales.
It makes a number of awards, among which eight travel scholarships are being offered this year, and is the second successive year that one of its scholarships has been taken by the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies.
Last year Gwyneth Rees used her bursary to work as a reporter in Malawi.
