Peter Cole appointed NCTJ vice-chairman

Peter Cole has been appointed vice-chairman of the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

He joined the board in 1998 and has been Professor of Journalism at the University of Sheffield since August 2000.

He began his career as a reporter and US correspondent for the London Evening News and was Londoner's Diary editor on the Evening Standard.

Peter was then a general reporter and later political correspondent on The Guardian, before becoming that paper's news editor and then deputy editor.

He was founder editor and a director of The Sunday Correspondent and news review editor at The Sunday Times.

From 1993 Professor Cole was head of the department of journalism at the University of Central Lancashire, until moving to Sheffield.
