Media studies courses are among those showing the biggest increase in the number of students accepted to universities.
According to the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, the number of students wanting to get into media courses is up by 15.8 per cent on last year.
Journalism courses themselves saw a 13.8 per cent rise in the number of students accepted, compared with the 2002 figures.
The figures for 2003 entry into higher education were released as the Government faced the crunch vote on top-up fees legislation, which got through its first House of Commons hurdle by the slender margin of five votes.
The effect of the new fees, which could be brought in from 2006, may affect future applications.
