Chester College's new BA Honours course in journalism has been awarded provisional accreditation by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.
The course, which began in September, was awarded one year accreditation following a visit by the NCTJ, and a further visit will be made next year to check on progress.
Accreditation visits were also made earlier this year to Liverpool College, Nottingham Trent University, Norton College in Sheffield and Salford University.
Following approval by the NCTJ's main board, Liverpool College has received full accreditation for all its newspaper and magazine courses, Nottingham Trent University has received full accreditation for its MA/PG Diploma in newspaper journalism and Norton College has received full accreditation for all its journalism and photography courses.
All awards are for three years, until October 2006.
