Awards of £6,000 on offer to journalism hopefuls

People who want to get into journalism are being offered £6,000 to help them in their quest.

Six scholarships of up to £6,040 are being offered by the Tindle Newspaper group for journalism "wannabes" in their circulation areas.

There are more than 140 titles in the group, and successful candidates will also be offered work experience on a Tindle newspaper.

The Sir Ray Tindle Journalism Scholarships at the University of Buckingham are for accelerated two-year honours degrees in combination with English.

Apart from having to live in the newspaper's circulation area, candidates should be studying for A or AS Levels in English Language, English Literature, Media Studies or Journalism.

Two scholarships are reserved for mature students with equivalent work experience, not necessarily in journalism.

Proprietor Sir Ray Tindle, who has a Doctorate in Letters from the university, said: "I am delighted that the university has suggested these scholarships and I am sure that all our editors will welcome the opportunity to contribute to our industry in this way."
