Winner moves on - after one week in new job

The sudden resignation of a trainee reporter who won his job in a competition has left the York Evening Press looking for a replacement.

Andy Plowman won his job in the York Evening Press Write Stuff competition, which attracted entries from across the circulation area.

He battled it out with six other finalists to win the coveted job - which would have included his training on the Newsquest in-house training scheme, ending with his National Council for the Training of Journalists proficiency test.

But he left the paper last Friday, after only a week, to pursue "other options in the industry", according to the Evening Press.

Assistant editor Chris Buxton said: "We have still to decide what to do next but we will be taking on another trainee."

Options might include choosing from among the other six competition finalists or recruiting from scratch.
