College prospectus wins top award

Falmouth College of Arts' 2003 People Like Us prospectus has won an award in HEIST's annual Education Marketing Awards scheme, in recognition of prospectus design in the higher education sector.

The college, which offers a range of writing, journalism and photography courses, beat competition from a number of well-established universities.

The aspects of People Like Us that particularly caught the attention of the judges were the simplicity and power of the front cover, the emphasis on location, some of the best photography they had seen, stunning course spreads, the use of colour, the integration of student work and the care that had been taken in the copywriting.

College public relations officer Jilly Easterby, who project managed and edited the publication, said: "We are delighted to have won this award, not least because it endorses the College's recruitment strategy with its focus on the quality of work that our staff and students produce."

She said it also reflected:

  • the outstanding natural beauty of our immediate environment;
  • our connections with business, industry and the wider world;
  • the career opportunities that await art, design and media graduates.

    She added: "People Like Us also celebrates the wealth of talent to be found within the South West's design and production community.

    "Our thanks go to Fox Design Consultants and Westernprint from Bath, Twenty Twenty Displays from Falmouth, Hayle-based photographer, Bob Berry, and Somerset-based photographer, Tim Mercer, all of whom played a crucial role in this achievement."

    Courses include BA(Hons) in Broadcasting, English with Media Studies, Film Studies, Journalism and Photography, and postgraduate diplomas in Broadcast Journalism, Television Production, Professional Writing, as well as MAs in Contemporary Visual Arts and Photography.

    HEIST is an educational marketing agency which encourages and rewards excellence in the marketing of universities and colleges throughout the UK.

    The panel of judges included former winners, as well as professionals involved in the production of publications, careers and marketing consultancies.
