Former Daily Mirror editor Roy Greenslade is to become a professor at City University in London.
The media commentator will join the university's School of Journalism and will specialise in ethics, society and the media.
He will succeed former New Statesman editor Hugh Stephenson, who retires in July.
Roy has worked in journalism for more than 30 years, starting his career on the Barking Advertiser, and edited the Mirror from 1990 to 1991.
He said: "I am greatly looking forward to teaching at City University, which has an excellent reputation in producing innovative journalists.
"This will be an opportunity for myself to put something back into the industry and hopefully pass on some of my knowledge."
Rod Allen, Head of Journalism added: "We are delighted to be able to appoint someone in the best traditions of the Journalism Department.
"I am sure Roy will contribute greatly and the students will be inspired by such a high profile appointment."
The university's School of Journalism runs courses for those wishing to work within the media industry, including Postgraduate Diplomas in Newspaper Journalism and Periodical Journalism; MA programmes in International Journalism and Electronic Publishing; and a journalism degree.Back to the training index
