Students show what's on their journalism course

Journalism students have been showing youngsters the way forward in a project to encourage schoolchildren to go into higher education.

The youngsters have been helping BA and postgraduate journalism students at Falmouth College of Arts to compile a newsletter and present the news at the college's new state-of-the-art media centre.

There was also input from the photography degree course, where youngsters took part in a fashion shoot and used the latest digital technology to produce the images.

It was all part of the Peninsula Project, which aims to break down the barriers that can prevent some children from considering higher education. It also encourages institutions to recruit from a wide range of backgrounds.

Project spokeswoman Hannah Partington said: "The days are run so that pupils get an insider's view of what studying at university level can be like, and that it is an entirely different educational experience."
