The final version of the National Council for the Training of Journalists revised on-the-job training logbook will be completed shortly and launched through the Council's Briefing magazine and the Society of Editors' website.
It was devised after editors met last year and will become an integral part of the National Certificate Examination, providing a concise guideline on standards for trainees and trainers.
It will be implemented from the early autumn.
The NCTJ is working to adapt the logbooks to meet the individual circumstances of in-company schemes.
And the Society of Editors' training committee welcomed the logbook initiative as a step in the right direction towards the matching of standards of training across the industry through the NCE, NVQs or in-company schemes.
