Want to be a reporter?

Budding newspaper reporters are being invited to apply for places on a specialist full-time course that leads to direct entry into newspapers.

All but five of the 36 student journalists who graduated from the last three courses at Sutton Coldfield College are now working as trainee reporters with newspapers, or in other branches of the media.

The one-year course is fully accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists and offers the award of a Pre-Entry Certificate.

The next course, the seventh to be staged by the college, starts in September and runs through to the end of May.

It includes a period of work experience on local newspapers and students will also learn newspaper law, public affairs and shorthand.

Candidates should possess or have expectations of at least one good A-level or a degree.

Application forms can be obtained from: National Council for the Training of Journalists, Latton Bush Centre, Southern Way, Harlow, CM18 7BL. Or telephone: 01279 430009
