Some unusual answers to parts of this paper included:
On the Salvation Army Citadel's centenary celebrations - "ask when itwas set up".On follow-ups surrounding bones of a soldier missing in 1915 being dugup in Ypres: "Asking the farmer who found the body if he knew if there hadbeen any battles fought in the area."Or locating and interviewing the dead soldier's "siblings but be awareof the Code [of Practice] and get the parents' permission first."One candidate rather worried markers with their lack of appropriatesources by stating: "I'd contact my newspaper's health correspondent if ithad one."There were an "encouraging" number of satisfactory answers in the Speechpaper but a dearth of straightforward intros.
"Sadly, only a handful of reporters were able to produce a bright introout of a charitable trust," according to the examiners' report.
"All candidates must have previously passed the NCTJ's preliminary examin public affairs. Yet two seemed not to have heard of the term "workingparty". One called it a workers' group, the other a management group."
