Anniversary marked in style

The 50th anniversary of the National Council for the Training of Journalists has been marked with a celebration lunch, attended by past chairmen, board members and staff.

The organisation was set up as the National Advisory Council on the Training and Education Scheme for Junior Journalists on November 27, 1951.

It was formed on the recommendations of the 1949 Royal Commission on the Press.

The anniversary celebrations saw more than 70 people gather at the National Liberal Club in London.

Guest speaker Bob Satchwell, executive director of the Society of Editors, addressed the lunch guests after the NCTJ's annual meeting.
