Trainee of the year announced

An Oxford Mail reporter has been named Trainee Journalist of the Year by Darlington College of Technology.

Alison Bartlett, (23), scored top marks in all four exams for her National Council for the Training of Journalists National certificate Examination.

Alison is a languages graduate from Oxford University and decided on a career in the media while working for a Spanish radio station.

Her editor at The Mail, Jim McClure, said: "When Alison came to us for work experience we had our first glimmer of what an outstanding journalist she might become - we're so glad she came back to join us to prove our hunch was right."
