Comprehensive magazine course is launched

Liverpool Community College is to pilot an 18-week postgraduate course inmagazine journalism.

The course will comprise law, ethics and public affairs, shorthand, subbing and production as well as a study of the periodical industry and work experience.

It will begin in January 2002 and 12 places will be on offer to graduates in the first instance.

The course is being offered as a result of considerable demand from trainees in the North West for this area of industry training.

Head of School of Journalism, Sandy Felton, said: "Demand for this area of training has increased considerably over the last few years and we have now decided to expand the department so that we can add periodical training and design to our portfolio of courses.

"I hope that the January pilot will be the first of many."
