Plans for specialist media college in Sheffield

Media moguls of tomorrow could be educated in Sheffield if plans for a specialist college get the go-ahead.

Abbeydale Grange is bidding to become one of only nine secondaries for media arts nationwide.

The school would offer classes in digital film and video making, web page design, journalism, CD-Rom programming and many other branches of the new media.

Abbeydale headteacher Chris Mallaband said pupils concentrating on the new media would be in an excellent position to land a range of influential jobs.

He said: "Young people looking at this field will see expansion and successful entrepreneurship. GCSEs and A-levels aren't necessarily the key - what are needed are natural performers and creators."
