Yorkshire Post picture editor Ian Day has joined the National Council for the Training of Journalists' Photography Examinations Board.
In the role he will help the NCTJ develop its photography courses and qualifications.
The NCTJ said he was invited to join the board because of his wealth of experience, having worked as a press photographer for 17 years.
Ian (pictured) began his career as a trainee photographer at the Evening Courier in Halifax before moving to the Ross Parry Picture Agency in Leeds, and also worked for the Telegraph & Argus in Bradford.
In 1996 he became picture editor at the Yorkshire Post, and is now in his third stint in the role, having also worked for the Press Association where he spent time working as an editorial trainer with the PA Editorial Centre.
Ian said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be invited to join the photography board as it allows me the chance to pass on some of my experience to future press photographers and photo journalists.
"I value the importance of quality training and being allowed to play a major part in the development of trainees is a great honour.
"This business changes at a vast speed and so the training has to match the ever changing requirements of the industry."
