Photographer's football ground ban is lifted

A freelance photographer banned from covering matches at Mansfield Town FC's Field Mill ground has spoken of his relief after being told the ban has been lifted.

Dan Westwell had been told that he was not welcome back either as a press member or spectator after he was removed from the ground on January 20.

On the same day he was arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour under Section 5 of the Public Order Act.

But the photographer says he is now looking forward to returning to the ground when the club plays Grimsby Town on February 17, after being forced to miss two home matches.

He said: "It's fantastic news.

"I can't wait for the Grimsby game when I can return to my second home and do the thing I love doing most in my life - taking photographs of Mansfield Town for Mansfield Town fans."

A spokesman for Mansfield Town FC confirmed to HTFP that the ban had been lifted.

Dan is due to appear at Mansfield Magistrates' Court for a second time on Friday. He is yet to enter a formal plea.

He had been pitch-side at Mansfield Town's home match on January 20 when he was asked by stewards to leave the ground, and was then arrested.

Tensions among the crowd had been running high, with loud chants against Mansfield Town FC owner Keith Haslam.
