Organisers of the Picture Editors' Awards say this year's event will not go ahead, because of a lack of funding.

There is now a question mark over whether the competition will be held in future years. This year's event had been due to be held on March 26.

Glyn Genin, chairman of the awards, said that unless additional sponsorship could be quickly found, the competition would not go ahead in 2007.
