Award-winning Liverpool Daily Post and Echo photographer Martin Birchall has captured the best of this year's Open golf championship at Hoylake on camera with a special exhibition.
Martin, who has worked at the Post and Echo for 17 years, combined his photographic talent with his golfer's experience to create a photo-documentary of this year's event.
A private showing of the exhibition at The Royal Liverpool Golf Club began on Friday and is due to run for two weeks, before going on display at the paper's City Exchange headquarters on Old Hall Street for a further two weeks.
Martin (pictured) said: "Photographing this Open at Hoylake was the job of a lifetime.
"I looked for a mixture of action shots, quirky incidents and players' instant reactions, such as when a put drops. You've got try to predict what might happen. In Tiger Woods' final round, I was ready to capture his reaction.
"To my delight, he broke into this expression of total delight. If I hadn't been familiar with his behaviour, I would have missed the moment.
"I've always had a passion for golf, playing since I was ten. Every time the Open has been in the north west I've tried to attend."
