Snow joke as photographer rescues pensioner

As heavy snow hit Inverclyde, Greenock Telegraph photographer George Munro was sent out to capture the scene across the town - and ended up in the news himself when he came to the rescue of an elderly lady.

Armed with just his camera, the intrepid lensman had ventured into the town centre, and after getting stuck in his car had continued on foot.

Spotting pensioner Margaret Kay up to her knees in snow on the town's Dalrymple Street, he began taking her picture - before realising she needed help as she had become stuck in a snow drift.

George told HoldtheFrontPage: "I was the only person in the street. I started taking pictures of her but then I realised she was in trouble and I thought I'd better help her out!

"Luckily two guys came along with shovels who had been clearing a path to the shopping centre."

Following the incident 73-year-old Margaret (pictured) told the paper she hadn't seen so much snow for years.

She said: "I shouldn't have gone out but when I did I got trapped.

"But the photographer and the workmen saw me and ran over. They were really helpful and got me out."

George added: "When she spoke to the reporter she made more of the fact that I helped her out. It was no big deal really."
