A new book to trace the pictorial history of Bradford city centre has proved a hit with Telegraph & Argus readers.
Bye Bye Broadway uses hundreds of pictures from the archives to tell the story of the development of the city centre from its heyday as a vibrant centre for the wool trade to the current transformation taking place to pave the way for a major new shopping development.
Many of the photographs, mainly from the 50s and 60s, stored on glass plates, were discovered by chance in an old storeroom where they had lain for decades. In some cases they had never been published before.
The idea of the book was born from watching the slowly-changing skyline of Bradford city centre as the first buildings were demolished to make way for a new multi-million pound Broadway shopping centre.
From grainy pictures taken at the turn of the 20th century to modern shots showing Bradford in the 80s and 90s, the book provides an authoritative history.
A marketing idea allowed readers to pre-order the book and have their names printed inside - and more than 730 took up that offer.
