  • The chief examiner, Peter Dash, said: "The NCE which is moderated twice a year gives the photography board a good indication of the level of training the candidates have received and absorbed and their expertise and professionalism.

"I am delighted to say that the indications are very positive. With more than twenty trainees sitting this very demanding exam this year the success rate is still very high.

"A critical day is the practical exam when candidates are put through a rigorous series of disciplines which are as close to workplace scenarios as possible. They work to strict deadlines and the pressure on them is high. I am delighted that all candidates in November passed this section including one re-sit from May.

"Other sections include the portfolio and an advanced project where candidates design and produce a feature for a double page spread or single sheet broadsheet publication.

"The most rewarding part of assessing work is when the examiners are able to award distinctions and I am pleased that two candidates, Dominic Lipinski and Matthew Stewart, were awarded 75 per cent and over in the three sections.

"The standard of their work was quite exceptional and they both thoroughly deserve the awards they have won. This is a very good indication of their mastery of their trade and past experience has shown that they will certainly make their mark in the industry."
