Tributes paid to former chief photographer

Former Derby Evening Telegraph chief photographer Bill Whittaker has died. He was 74.

Bill had worked for the paper for nearly 40 years, joining the paper in 1946, aged 14.

He spent a year working in the accounts department of the Evening Telegraph before becoming a photographer, rising to chief photographer in 1978.

He retired on grounds of ill health in September 1983 and moved to Paignton, Devon with his wife, Jean, who also worked at the Evening Telegraph, in the photographic sales and advertising departments.
