A major exhibition featuring award-winning images from the 2004 and 2005 Picture Editors' Awards has begun a tour in Eastern Europe.

Organised by the British Council in Ukraine, the exhibition was initially displayed at the Ukrainian Parliament in Kiev, where it was opened by Sir David Green, director general of the British Council at a reception for Parliamentarians, diplomats and media.

The exhibition has also visited St Petersburg, where it was a major attraction at Photofair International, Russia's largest and most prestigious annual photographic event.

Among the winners at this year's Picture Editors' Awards was Simon Hulme from the Yorkshire Post and Simon de Trey-White from the Watford Observer and Harrow Times.

The annual event recognises the best photographic talent in the UK and Ireland, and is also open to British and Irish photographers working abroad.

Detail's of next year's event are due to be announced in November, with an awards ceremony held at the Guildhall in London in March.
