Weddings man named photographer of the year

Tony Sherwin has been voted Sentinel photographer of the year in a weddings promotion where readers voted for their favourite picture.

The freelancer’s shot of a woman being showered with confetti proved a big hit and saw him land the accolade.

Tony started his photographic career after leaving school in 1972, when he joined John Martins of Hanley.

He then moved into the world of television where he worked as assistant photographer and technician for Thames Television.

During this time he was involved with a number of successful TV shows, but family reasons led to a move from London back to Stoke where he moved into photographic retail.

Tony was then appointed National Business Manager for the Japanese manufacturer Fuji Film. Redundancy forced a change in direction once again and Tony decided five years ago to move back into the sharp end of photography.

His award this week was connected to The Sentinel’s own bridal event at the Etruria Moat House this week, organised by the advertising and promotions departments.
