Photographers from regional newspapers across the UK are among those to have made the shortlist for this year's Picture Editors' Awards.
A list of contenders for the prestigous event has been revealed after a jury of 30 picture editors from national and regional newspapers and news agencies sifted through more than 8,000 images.
On the shortlist are Simon Hulme from the Yorkshire Post and David Moir from The Scotsman, who are both in the running for Getty Images Regional Photographer of the Year, along with Cathal McNaughton from the Press Association and Lewis Whyld from the South West News Service.
In the local newspaper category Angus Blackburn from the Southern Reporter, Bill Darnell from the Great Yarmouth Mercury, Archant Norfolk's Simon Finlay and Simon de Trey-White, who works for the Watford Observer, St. Albans Observer and Harrow Times, will all fight it out for the £2,000 prize.
Regional press photographers have also won nominations in categories also open to those working for national titles, and all newspaper picture editors are now invited to ballot on the ultimate winners.
A full list of nominations can be found here.
All the results will be announced during a ceremony in the Great Hall of Guildhall in London on Monday, May 23.
