New sportsdesk position for Post picture editor

Yorkshire Post picture editor Ian Day has been appointed as The Press Association's new head of sports photos.

Ian will take up the position in early November and will be based alongside PA's sportsdesk in Howden.

Ian, (33), began his career as junior photographer with the Halifax Evening Courier before working at the Ross Parry Agency in Leeds and the Telegraph & Argus in Bradford.

He has previously worked as PA's sports picture editor in between two stints as picture editor at the Yorkshire Post.

Ian said: "I am very happy to rejoin The Press Association as head of sports photos.

"I look forward to developing the sports photos operation alongside the rest of PA's sports operation in Howden.

"It is also a great honour to work again with the talented team of PA photographers."

Ian's appointment coincides with the relocation of the picture desk to Howden enabling sports photography operation to work more closely with the sportsdesk.
