A new stock photography website which specialises in providing images of the UK has been launched.
Pure Images has spent the past six months building up a portfolio of mostly British instead of American pictures - responding to demand for from sub-editors, picture editors and graphic designers.
One of the site's founders Scott Davidson said: "Many online picture agencies feature lots of American shots, which just aren't suitable for people needing images for UK newspapers, magazines and websites. That's where we can offer an alternative.
"The site works in a similar way to some of our larger competitors. You can search for stuff using keywords or categories and buy royalty-free or 'rights managed' photography to use in publications, advertising or design.
"There's the usual online 'lightboxes' to save searches and low-res samples available for people to download."
Photographers receive 70 per cent of the sale price of sold images with Pure Images taking the remaining 30 per cent as commission.
Scott said: "We don't ask people for portfolios – if they have one that's great, but we're still interested if they don't. As long as people have great work that is commercially viable we are interested."
• Pure Images is based at Denny in central Scotland and is owned by web company Oldhand Media.
