Photography graduate Sophie Laslett has won a six-month contract to work on The Times after taking the top prize in the national newspaper's young photographer competition.
The 26-year-old, who studied for a degree in photography at Nottingham Trent University, beat strong competition to scoop The Times/Tabasco bursary.
She impressed judges with a set of photographs - including a picture of a deserted doughnut stand at dawn during the Glastonbury Festival - which they said showed clarity and imagination.
Her winning photographs also included a portrait of comedian Paul Kaye on the film set of It's All Gone Pete Tong, and an action photograph from the making of Football Factory, a feature film about football violence.
Sophie follows in the footsteps of previous winners Leon Neal and Katherine Batchelor, in the competition which is designed to nuture the talent of young photographers.
This year's runners-up were Jonathan Enoch and Thomas Sussman, who will each receive Olympus camera equipment.
