Death of respected lensman

Bob Hamilton, one of Northern Ireland's best-known photographers, has died. He was 62.

He had worked at the News Letter in Belfast for 40 years, before taking early retirement just six months ago.

He joined the News Letter aged 21, after first working as a studio photographer, and worked his way up the ranks to become the paper's chief photographer.

He had also worked for the Sunday News during the 1970s and 1980s, and was a founder member and former chairman of the Northern Ireland Press Photographers Association.

During his career he won numerous awards for his work, including the title of Northern Ireland Press Photographer of the Year on two separate occasions.

Bob leaves a widow, Dorothy, and son Paul.
