Sports photo business Empics has won the prestigious award for new technology at the Growing Business Awards in London.

The Empics submission was based on its latest innovation - New Media Stills Production - which delivers sports images from camera click to online customers within 20 seconds.

The system provides access to sports photography as electronic slideshows, goal alerts and news round-ups for web or mobile phone output.

Chief executive Phil O'Brien said: "Winning this award is a great honour for the sports industry as well as for Empics."

CBI chief Digby Jones, one of the judges, said: "Here is an example of technology radically altering the growth trajectory of a business. The judges were hugely impressed with the wide range of customer formats the new service canreach."

This latest award comes on the back of a recent DTI e-commerce award commendation.
