Bristol Evening Post photographer Stephen Lewis captured the dramatic moment when a man poured petrol over his body outside the city's BBC headquarters.
Police and fire officers immediately stepped in to prevent the man - who had a cigarette lighter - from turning his protest into tragedy.
Stephen was sent to the scene as a crowd grew and took a series of shots to tell the story and the incident was splashed on the Evening Post front page.
The man, screaming in Arabic, was rushed by police and firefighters who sprayed him with extinguishers.
