Dave's photographic memory

Ipswich Evening Star picture editor Dave Kindred has published a new book, Ipswich: The Photographic Collection.

With a keen interest in the history of photography, Dave, a 13th-generation Suffolk local, has built up an archive of local vintage images, more than 400 of which are included in his latest book.

It records the development of the town since the mid-19th century, and is a compilation of two of Dave's earlier books, Ipswich: A Second Selection and Ipswich Revisited.

Dave joined the Evening Star as a junior photographer in 1963 after leaving the film processing industry, and has worked for the paper ever since.

He said: "I have built a large file of vintage local images over the past 15 years. Many of the pictures are from original glass plate negatives which I rescued from being destroyed."
