Season of highs and lows captured in display

A season of highs and lows which resulted in promotion for Wrexham Football Club is currently featuring in an exhibition by press photographer Les Evans.

The Evening Leader snapper, who is a lifelong Wrexham fan, captured the club's most memorable moments of the last season on film, and his work is now on display at Wrexham Museum.

  • Les Evans
  • Entitled, Promotion, the display graphically shows what a quick return to the second division meant to the club and to its fans.

Les, who has been taking pictures of the club for 35 years, took the photographs following a break from work due to illness.

He said: "I hadn't done any football for six months or so because I was ill. But as soon as I was well enough I was back taking match day pictures and somehow it revitalised me."

  • One of the images currently on display
  • "That enforced break gave me a whole new, fresh perspective of the job and I'd like to think that is reflected in my exhibition.

"Two other exhibitions of my work went very well, and this one is intended to show the emotions and excitment of the season."

The exhibition also includes various mementoes from the season including a special Nationwide bottle of champagne, a football signed by the players and a new team strip.
