MPs have paid tribute in Parliament to a regional press photographer who plans to retire next month.

Dan Arden has been a photographer for more than 60 years, working for the Wellington Journal, Shropshire Star, and Newport and Market Drayton Advertisers.

Last year he was awarded an MBE for his services to the community, and he is due to hang up his camera on his 85th birthday on July 8.

To mark Dan's achievements Shropshire MPs have put their names to an Early Day Motion in the Commons.

Tabled by Wrekin MP Peter Bradley, it has been backed by Owen Paterson for North Shropshire, David Wright for Telford and Matthew Green of Ludlow.

The motion said: "This House notes that, after 65 years as a distinguished photographer, including almost 40 years for the Shropshire Star and more recently for the Newport Advertiser, Dan Arden MBE is to retire on his 85th birthday on 8th July; pays tribute to the professionalism, courtesy and sporty roadsters which have been his trademarks; acknowledges the many achievements in his career, including the rare distinction of having photographed six successive prime ministers; and wishes him many happy returns in a long and fulfilling retirement."
