A collection of images capturing the real people behind the famous faces has gone on display.
With pictures by Liverpool Daily Post & Echo picture editor Stephen Shakeshaft, Shooting Stars: Famous Faces by Stephen Shakeshaft, has opened at the city's Conservation Centre.
It features more than 120 studies of celebrities from the 1960s to the present day and brings together some of Stephen's most memorable shots from his career so far.
Most of the pictures are of people from the worlds of showbiz and royalty, including The Beatles, Kylie Minogue and Princess Diana, but one animal also features - legendary Grand National winner Red Rum.
Ken Dodd, who Stephen has known throughout his newspaper career, also features in several studies - including one of him with the man behind the lens, both holding tickling sticks (above).
Stephen said: "Many of the Shooting Stars photographs were taken in Liverpool theatre dressing rooms before and after shows.
"I am fascinated by the way celebrities prepare themselves for going on stage and then seeing them relaxing after their performances.
"People like to see behind the spotlights and the public faces of the performers.
"I have been taking newspaper photographs over four decades and have kept those showing people who have interested me."
The exhibition is at the Conservation Centre in Whitechapel, Liverpool, until September 28.Back to the photography index
