Press photographer's images go on display

A regional press photographer is currently showing off his work at two seperate exhibitions in Aberdeen.

Raymond Besant, who has worked for the Press and Journal for the past four years, launched an exhibition looking at the North East fishing industry earlier this month at the Aberdeen Maritime museum.

Entitled A Turning Tide, the 22-picture photo essay looks at fish processors, fishermen, conservation issues and the challenges the fishing communities face because of the declining fish stocks and the recent cuts from Brussels.

  • Raymond said: "I've had a lot of positive feedback about the exhibition so far.

"I wanted to get my teeth into a local project where I wasn't limited by time.

"I started taking the photographs last August and it is still ongoing."

Meanwhile a second exhibition of Raymond's work went on display at Peacock Visual Arts on Saturday.

  • La Paz (the peace) brotherhood
  • In March last year he travelled to Seville to cover the week-long Semana Santa festival, which celebrates the resurrection of Christ.

Raymond said: "I knew there would be plenty of scope for pictures. It was pretty spooky."

  • A Turning Tide runs until June 14, while Semana Santa will end on June 21.
