Snatched shots of 'sneak thieves' target crimewave

An evening newspaper has run a front page lead with the headline "Caught in the Act" after snatching shots of youngsters breaking the law.

It published the pictures in the hope of bringing the culprits to justice.

The Cambridge Evening News ran the shots of two girls, thought to have been pickpocketing in the city centre, on the same day as the paper ran a story warning shoppers about the problem.

Photographer Keith Jones saw the pair in action and started taking pictures to pass on to the police.

He later asked the apparent victim if she had lost anything and found her purse, containing £80 in cash and credits cards, was missing.

Keith said: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing, when I realised what was happening I started taking pictures.

"I was shocked, especially because they were girls and they were doing it in broad daylight. I can't have been the only one who saw it.

"The girls walked off very quickly when they saw I'd seen them."
