McCartney picture exclusive

A photographer from The Argus snapped the shot the world's media was after when he spotted Sir Paul McCartney leaving a concert with fiancee Heather Mills.

As the competition jetted off to Ireland and New York in the hope of spotting the couple on one of the days they were rumoured to be tying the knot, The Argus got the scoop on its own doorstep.

Photographer Aaron St Clair photographed Sir Paul and his bride-to-be as they emerged from a Brian Wilson concert at the Brighton Centre.

Aaron said: "I ran after them and asked if I could take some pictures. I said I was from the local press, and he said 'Oh, The Argus - yes, of course.'"

Sir Paul signed autographs for the small crowd of fans waiting outside the venue as they shouted out their congratulations on his wedding plans.

But Heather, wearing a sequinned top, jeans and a denim jacket, seemed eager to get away.

Aaron said: "She was reluctant to have her picture taken and was very sheepish about posing with Paul."

The couple later went for a meal at a Chinese restaurant in Preston Street before heading home.

The Argus used the picture on the front page the next day - tagged 'picture exclusive'.

Taking the photograph was a dream come true for Aaron, who said: "It was the first time I've photographed Sir Paul, and it did feel like an honour. He is a legend after all."
