Former Nottingham Evening Post picture editor Steve Mitchell is looking forward to getting back to his newspaper roots with a move to the Derby Evening Telegraph.
For the past five-and-a-half years Steve has worked for Nottingham-based sports photo agency Empics - a role that has taken him around the world.
He has decided to give up the long-haul flights, covering sports such as Formula One and Champions League football in favour of the delights of Derby - and the newly-created post of picture editor.
Steve said: "It's a lifestyle choice really. I've two young children and my wife is a sub-editor at the Nottingham Evening Post.
"It's great life, but it does take its toll. I got to the stage where I loved the job at Empics - under different circumstances it would be an unbeatable job - but I had to think long-term about where it was leading.
"I've also missed newspapers and I've missed doing news and features - sport isn't the be-all and end-all."
In his new role, Steve's key task will be to turn the Telegraph's photographic department in to a digital operation - as well as overseeing the day-to-day running of the department.
However he does have a wealth of experience to draw from - before his move to Empics he spent 10 years at the Nottingham Evening Post and worked his way up to picture editor.
Steve said: "There's a good job to done - it's not a pipe and slippers move! I'm expecting some heavy days."
