New award for students

A new award for students has been added to the categories at this year's Picture Editors' Awards.

The Awards were rescued by new lead sponsor Getty Images after being threatened by a lack of funding.

The Student Award, sponsored by the Corporation of London, consists of an honorarium of £1,000, work experience opportunities, and support with equipment and materials.

It is open to those on a higher education course in photography in the UK or Ireland who are considering a career in photographic journalism.

Photographers can register at the Picture Editors' website.

They can also enter online and entries for the Student Award will be accepted until Friday April 12.

To enter, students need to produce a portfolio of between six and eight pictures of their work.

Short listed entrants will be invited to spend a day in London to discuss their work and career plans with a distinguished panel of picture editors and photographers, and will be guests of the Corporation at the Award's Ceremony.
