Photographer could still be jailed

Freelance photographer Steve Morgan could still be jailed for taking pictures at a Greenpeace protest in the United States - despite nine of the protesters being set free.

Steve was part of a group of 17 charged with conspiracy, trespassing and violating a safety zone following a Greenpeace protest against the 'Star Wars' missile at the Vandenberg Air Force base in California on July 14 last year.

Steve had been taking photographs of the demonstration for Greenpeace when he was arrested.

Felony charges against the group were dropped after they agreed to plead guilty to the lesser misdemeanour charge of conspiracy to enter a military base.

Nine activists have now been sentenced to one-year probation, avoiding jail or fines.

But Steve, along with six other defendants, could still be jailed for up to six months.

They are scheduled to be sentenced on April 15.

  • Before going freelance, Steve worked at the Yorkshire Post and the Independent.
