Empics in sports pictures deal

Sports photo agency Empics now has the exclusive rights to market the historical sports pictures in the Sport & General and Barratts collections.

The collections were acquired by Alpha in 1996 - and since that time have been exploited widely in Alpha's specialist areas of news, royalty and personalities. EMPICS will act as exclusive sales agency for all the sports photography.

Empics founder Phil O'Brien said: "This is a collection we have had our eye on for over 10 years.

"We missed out on acquiring the collection outright in 1996 - but this arrangement for just the sports material is an excellent way of working for all parties.

"The depth of sports photography we can now offer is second to none. This compliments other acquisitions we have made, such as the collection by Peter Robinson, FIFA's photographer from 1970 to 1996".

The company has already started to offer a broader service to clients around the historical collections.

Phil said: "We have already seen a significant increase in our share of the book market through this arrangement."

Empics is an international sports photo agency, established in 1985, supplying newspapers, magazines, books, web-sites, sporting bodies and marketing agencies around the world.
