New honour for Lincoln's Mike

Former Lincolnshire Chronicle photographer Mike Maloney is to receive another honour - just a week after receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside.

Fresh from receiving the honorary doctorate of arts for his lifetime commitment to photography, Mike will be made a freeman of the city of London this autumn.

Mike said: "I don't know how this came about and who is responsible for it, but I am really excited.

"It came completely out of the blue - just like my honorary degree."

Originally from Lincoln, Mike, who is currently group chief photographer for Mirror Group Newspapers, returned home to receive his honorary degree in Lincoln Cathedral.

He received many messages of congratulation, including one from the Queen Mother.
