Home city honours Maloney

Mike Maloney, a former Lincolnshire Chronicle photographer, has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside.

Mike, who is currently group chief photographer for Mirror Group Newspapers, received the honorary doctorate of arts for his lifetime commitment to photography.

Originally from Lincoln, Mike has travelled the world photographing celebrities and historic events during his career.

However he is happy to return home to pick up his 100th major award, and says the honorary degree is an undisputed high-point in his career.

He said: "I never wanted to leave Lincoln but I always say that the Lincolnshire Chronicle got rid of me, leaving me no choice but to go to London to make my way.

"It was a great career move but I have always planned to come back to Lincoln.

"So to be honoured by the city's university is incredibly special and a great achievement for me."
